In order to increase cooperation at regional level and to deepen the energy market integration in the region of Southeast Europe, a workshop titled „Possibilities for integration of the Bulgarian and Macedonian Day Ahead Electricity Markets” was held in Sofia on December 21st, 2016. The workshop was organized by the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange (IBEX). Beside representatives from IBEX, representatives from the Macedonian Transmission System Operator (MEPSO AD), Bulgarian Electricity System Operator (ESO), national regulatory agencies and scientific community took part in the event. An official guest of the event was Mr. Magnus Sunnefors, Director Serviced Markets from Nord Pool AS. Mr. Sunnefors, the main speaker in the program, presented the experience of Nord Pool AS regarding to the possibilities for integration of the Bulgarian and Macedonian Day Ahead electricity markets as he drew attention to the integration functioning principles, operational mechanisms and the main technical, regulatory and economic aspects of the process. The benefits of electricity market integration in the region have been also discussed, both, for market participants and for market operators and system operators. The workshop ended with a discussion, as there have been discussed on the defined problems, analysed the possible solutions and proposed the next steps to be taken.
